"The politics of genocide: Rwanda & DR Congo"
The article is about how political wars started happening in Rwanda in 1994. The “Hutu Power” regime killed hundreds of thousands of Tutsis, as well as moderate Hutus. People were angry with the Rwandan Patriotic Front government, headed by Paul Kagame, because they failed to stop the 1994 genocide. Momentum is growing behind the recognition of the RPF's own responsibility for massacres of civilians, mainly Hutus, leading to accusations that it too has committed genocide. These genocide events made some Hutu propagandists propound the theory of “double genocide”.
I think it is bad that the government failed to stop the 1994 genocide. Since they did not take charge during this time of need, people are paranoid about how effective the Rwandan Patriotic Front really is. It is a shame that people can not trust there government, and i think in the futur they need to do more to prevent these things from happening.
This article ties in with politics because the conflictswere caused by political wars. People are concerned with corruption in the Rwandan Patriotic Front, which is the current ruling political party of Rwanda. Citizens are concerned for their safety and they are worried about the effectiveness of their government.
